Flood waters recede in hard-hit Gatlinburg; video has 2M views


GATLINBURG, Tenn. (KT) – Flooding closed roads and threatened attractions in the popular tourist destination of Gatlinburg, Tennessee, on Thursday as flash flooding caused the Cliff Branch River to overflow into the city.

The City of Gatlinburg suspended its emergency operations center as floodwaters began to recede on Friday. A viral video of the flooding had more than 2 million views.

Water river gauges around Gatlinburg showed local rivers above flood stage for much of Thursday. Several roads and parking garages remained closed during Thursday evening.

River Road was closed with water beginning to crest over the road in front of the aquarium.
